Age verification

This page explains the 18+ gate on this site: why it exists, how it works and where its limits are. It also separates it from the age rules on Janitor AI itself.

Adult Self-Certification

The gate you see on the first visit is a self-certification screen. You confirm that you are at least 18, or the age of majority where you live if that is higher. There is no ID upload, no face scan and no third-party verification service on this site.

Once you confirm, a small flag is saved in your browser's localStorage. On later visits from the same browser the gate stays hidden, and clearing site data, changing browsers or opening a private window brings it back.

Two Age Controls in Play

Readers often mix up two separate age controls when they look into Janitor AI. They work independently of each other:

1. This site's 18+ gate. It applies to reading burgashell.co.uk. It is self-certification with a browser-side flag and no verification.
2. Janitor AI's own rules. The platform's help center says the service is "exclusively intended for an audience above the age of 18". The iOS app is rated 18+ and the Google Play listing Mature 17+, and users in Australia, Brazil and the UK pass a k-ID age check (face estimate, ID scan or AgeKey).

Why This Site Is 18+

The site is 18+ because it covers an adult platform for adult readers. Pages here discuss NSFW settings, subscription decisions and alternatives that allow explicit content. Setting the gate at 18 matches both that framing and Janitor AI's own age line.

Regional Variation

Where your local age of majority is above 18, the higher age applies to you. Several US states have passed age-verification laws for adult-focused sites, and those laws apply to you as a reader regardless of how this site's gate works. The self-certification screen is the only age control I run.

Parents and Educators

This site is not suitable for anyone under 18. If you need to block adult sites on a home or school network, a network-level content filter is far more reliable than any self-certification screen. Resources written for parents, rather than this adult resource, are the better starting point for a conversation with a teenager about AI companion apps.

Data Implications of the Gate

The gate stores one flag in your browser and nothing on my server. No personal data is collected when you confirm your age. Full detail is on the privacy policy page.
