Privacy policy
burgashell.co.uk is a reading site with no accounts, no comments and no sign-ups. This page explains the small amount of data that is handled, why, and what rights you have over it.
The Short Version
I collect no names, email addresses or account data, because the site has no accounts. Server logs record standard request details for security and performance. Some outbound buttons are affiliate links that carry an anonymous referral tag, and that is the full scope.
Data Collected in Server Logs
Every page request creates a standard log line with an IP address, the requested URL, the referrer, the browser user-agent and a timestamp. These logs are kept for about 30 days to investigate abuse, security incidents and performance problems. They are not sold, licensed or shared with anyone beyond the hosting provider.
Cookies
The site sets no tracking cookies of its own. It stores one value in your browser's localStorage: a flag recording that you confirmed you are 18 or older. Clearing site data, switching browsers or using a private window removes it, and the age gate then appears again.
Third-Party Services
Google Fonts is the one third-party service that loads with every page. It serves the site's typefaces, which means Google receives your IP address and user-agent with the font request under its own privacy policy. I don't add any personal identifiers to that request, because I don't hold any.
Affiliate partners are the other third party, and only when you click an outbound button. The destination platform may receive a referral tag that credits the visit to this site. That tag carries no personal data from me, and what happens after you land is governed by that platform's policy.
What the Site Does Not Do
The list of things this site does not do is longer than the list of things it does. In plain terms:
- No accounts, sign-ups or logins.
- No comments, profiles or user-generated content.
- No newsletter and no collection of email addresses.
- No tracking pixels of my own and no behavioural profiles of visitors.
- No sale or rental of any data.
Retention
Server logs are kept for about 30 days and then deleted. The age-gate flag stays in your browser until you clear it. Nothing else is retained, because nothing else is collected.
Reader Rights
You have rights of access, correction, deletion and portability under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the California CCPA and similar laws. Because I hold no personal data tied to a named person, most of those requests have nothing to act on. If you have a question about a log entry from your IP address within the 30-day window, contact me through the channel below.
Children
This site is for adults only and is not designed for anyone under 18. Access starts with an 18+ confirmation screen. How that gate works is explained on the age verification page.
Changes to This Policy
Any substantive change to this policy is dated on this page. The page's dateModified is updated at the same time. If a change affects readers in a meaningful way, a plain summary also goes into the editorial policy log.
Contact
Privacy questions come to me on LinkedIn. I answer within seven working days. Please don't send personal documents through that channel, because I don't need them to answer.
